11:00 am - Off the air.  Tear down and clean up.

Where:  Woodley Island Marina

First parking lot as you enter off of Route 255

Object:   To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and in doing so to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.  A premium is placed on developing skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio.

Stations:  We will operate in “Class 2-A” (a club running off of power other than commercial mains).  There will be two primary stations on HF and a Get on the Air (GOTA) station:

Ø       K6XG:  SSB – (HF voice) – each contact counts one point.

o       Station captain Jim KG6FWT

Ø       K6XG:  CW – (HF Morse code) – each contact counts two points. Operators need to be capable of about 25 wpm.

o       Station captain Gregg KD6LM

Ø       W6ZZK:  GOTA - this HF station may be operated by Novice, Technicians or generally inactive hams under their existing operating privileges, or under the direction of a Control Operator with appropriate privileges, as necessary. Non-licensed persons may participate under the direct supervision of an appropriate control operator.

o       Station captain Rod Ledbetter, KG6JAZ

Why the different call signs?:  The GOTA must use a different call sign than the main stations.  W6ZZK is difficult to use for CW since the “K” is often confused as the prosign ‘K’ and slows down the exchange.

Operating privileges:  Normal FCC rules apply.  If you have a Technician or General Class license, you may operate the stations in all sections of the HF bands with the supervision of an assigned Extra Class Control Operator.  The control operator will occasionally check activity, but does not have to be at the station at all times.  An unlicensed operator on the GOTA station must have a licensed amateur present to control and monitor the station.  If you operate, be sure to indicate in the log when you were at the station controls.

Woodley Island Marina Rules:  We are again thankful for the hospitality of the Woodley Island Marina and Dockmaster Suzie Howser.  She requires that we have no open fires, no alcohol and no dogs / pets.  We may use gas stoves on the asphalt area of the parking lot.

Scores:  Although the event is primarily meant to test emergency preparedness, it is also fun to compete with other clubs and our past year’s performance.  This year will be a challenge because of the extremely poor solar conditions, but if we keep the stations on the air 24 hours and focus on making as many contacts as possible, we should do well.

o       Wyatt Ledbetter, KG6JAY will be our logging program IT manager.  The program we use is simple and you can learn it quickly.  It avoids the hassle of paper and protects against duplicate contacts.

Exchange:  To count as a valid contact, we must correctly record the other station’s call sign, field day category, and ARRL section.  There are 80 sections in the US and Canada.  All other countries are logged as “DX.”
Our exchange is:

              K6XG  2A  SF

              W6ZZK  2A  SF (for GOTA)

Visitors:   ARRL San Francisco Section Manager Bill Hillendahl and a contingent of Civil Air Patrol cadets and visitors from Santa Rosa and Oregon will join us.

Potluck:  Bring food to share, and chairs.  HARC will provide paper plates and plastic utensils.  The coffee pot will be on all day.
