I passed the FCC General test the day before Field Day 2009. The next day I showed up at Woodley Island around noon to see what it was all about. HARC was taking down the masts when I arrived. Someone greeted me and showed me around, and I was hooked.
Field Day is more than a contest, it's Amateur Radio's Open House. We want the public and local officials to come and see, not only what we can do, but how we have fun doing it.
The site is open to the public on Saturday June 28 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, *but all hams are welcome for the entire event.* You can help out or just show up and hang out - there will be hams doing both. And we'll have 5 radio stations with General or higher licenses as Control Operators, so you can work all the HF bands no matter your own license. Radio contest operations run from 11:00 am Saturday to 11:00 am on Sunday.
We begin setting up masts and antennas at 8:00 am on Saturday (coffee and donuts), and start breaking down at 11:30 am on Sunday. There is a potluck dinner on Saturday at 6:00.
Official info at https://www.arrl.org/field-day
I look forward to seeing you there.
