Communicators are needed for the Tour of the Unknown Coast on Saturday September 21. Lots of volunteers are needed to properly staff this 100-Mile bike ride. There are only a couple of locations where an HT will work, most need higher power. A couple of radios, a mag-mount antenna and an amplifier for an HT are available for loan. This event requires a greater time commitment than most events but the organizers usually come through with a substantial contribution. Riders start at 0700. Interested parties, please contact Don Campbell at ke6hec@sbcglobal.net.

At 10:17 am (local time) on 10/17, you can join people across the world practicing earthquake safety. To register as a ShakeOut participant, visit https://www.shakeout.org/
Locally, Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services is collaborating with numerous county, state, and federal agencies, along with some local community based organizations, to provide a training opportunity to practice real-life communication scenarios for a large earthquake event. Volunteers are needed for this local preparedness drill.
To participate as a volunteer, you have the option of reporting from the field or assisting at the OES Emergency Operations Center.
Licensed Hams are especially needed as field-based reporters to check-in via either VHF on the Far West Repeater System, or via 75m phone HF on the morning of the drill to help test our local emergency communication capabilities. This participation should only require a few minutes of your time on October 19.
