At 10:20 am (local time) on 10/19, you can join people across the world practicing earthquake safety. To register as a ShakeOut participant, visit https://www.shakeout.org/register/index.php?start=california
Locally, Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services is collaborating with numerous county, state, and federal agencies, along with some local community based organizations, to provide a training opportunity to practice real-life communication scenarios for a large earthquake event. Volunteers are needed for this local preparedness drill.
To participate as a volunteer, you have the option of reporting from the field or assisting at the OES Emergency Operations Center or Mobile Communications Trailer.
Licensed Hams are especially needed as field-based reporters to check-in via either VHF on the Far West Repeater System, or via 75m phone HF on the morning of the drill to help test our local emergency communication capabilities. This participation should only require a few minutes of your time on October 19.
If you can provide a field report via ham radio or can volunteer in the EOC/MCU, information about how to register your participation will be forthcoming soon. Please stay tuned!
